Bamburgh Castle
Bamburgh Castle

Henry II probably built the keep. As an important English outpost, the castle was the target of occasional raids from Scotland. In 1464 during the Wars of the Roses, it became the first castle in England to be defeated by artillery, at the end of a nine-month siege by Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick.
You may have seen the castle on TV or the big screen as it has been used in the past,
1927: Huntingtower directed by George Pearson.
1984–86 Robin of Sherwood. Starring Michael Praed in the first and second series, Jason Connery in the third.
2001: Revelation film directed by Stuart Urban
2010: Robin Hood (2010 film) directed by Ridley Scott.
During the second world war the Navy also named a ship HMS Bamborough Castle after the castle.
Although the spelling is different it is spelt the way people in the North East say it, this caused a bit of confusion with my mate Dave who is from Devon as l spelt it the same way as the navy, l have now be put right on this matter
